Ardeth Platte, Carol Gilbert and Jackie Hudson

On July 25, 2003, Sisters Jackie Hudson, Carol Gilbert and Ardeth Platte were sentenced in Denver federal court under sabotage for their symbolic act of "disarming" nuclear missile silo N-8 in northeastern Colorado. The three women were immediately taken to interim jails in Colorado to begin their sentencing. Jackie receceived 31 months, Carol 33 and Ardeth 41 for their non-violent act of civil resistence to protest nuclear weapons. [Read more at www.littlevoice.org/n8missile].

We have contacted the Jonah house to get a updates on the three Ploughshares Nuns .... Below is what Liz, from Jonah House told us. [Cheryl D., 12-17-2003] ...

Each is doing well in her own right. None is finding it easy. Prisons are variations of military installations and prefer violent criminals to nonviolent protestors - especially to those who speak their minds and call the officers on their violence. Carol has been dubbed as having an attitude problem; Ardeth's whole visiting list was ignored by her raging "counselor" as being a list of criminals that he didn't want in his visiting room; Jackie has had to make it clear that she will not and cannot walk several miles a day to the work initially assigned to her. The more they take such stands, and the more lovingly they do so, the more ire they arouse. But I believe they will be loved in time.

Here are their current terms:

Ardeth Platte (41 months, out 12/05)
Carol Gilbert (33 months, out 5/05)
Jackie Hudson (30 months, out 3/05)

They would love to hear from us. If you would like to write to them, here is their current contact information:
